Triple Account upsets in Bucknor Mem Cup
THE 29-1 chance Triple Account fought off the 5-2 bet Reggae Rock for an upset victory in the $715,000 GA “Sarge” Bucknor Memorial Cup feature by 1 1/4 lengths at CaymanasPark yesterday.
Ridden by Robert Stewart, Triple Account ran 1,000 metres straight in a smart 58.1 to score his first win of the season among Overnight Allowance three-year-olds upward. Eight ran.
Among the early leaders, Triple Account dictated fractions of 22.2 and 45.3 tracked by New Kingston, ridden by Omar Walker, Reggae Rock with Dick Cardenas up and Thebandisloose ridden by Richard Mitchell to gain the upset win to the delight of his backers.
Deep inside the final 200 metres, Reggae Rock gathered momentum and went in chase of Triple Account, but he was travelling sweetly and beyond recall by that time and the chase was on for the minor placings, with Reggae Rock finishing the best of the rest.
New Kingston, who also loves this trip, failed to to tee-off and closed steadily for third another 1 1/2 lengths back as the joint 9-5 favourite with Working Image, who failed to place under Dane Nelson.
It was therefore left to Thebandisloose, well supported at odds of 5-2, to complete the frame, partnered by Richard Mitchell.
Owned and trained by Raymond Townsend, Triple Account is an eight-year-old bay horse by Top Account out of Triple Top (Topsider) and bred by Carl Bowling in the USA.
It was his fifth win from 60 career starts locally and he earned $390,400 as the winner’s share for earnings of $3,232,050 lifetime.
While Triple Account successfully held off Reggae Rock for victory in the feature, She’s Smokin had no such good fortune in the $735,000 Alex’s Imports “Dig Out Handicap” Race #37 where she had to share the spoils after ‘dead-heating’ with Herroyalhighness.
